There are plenty of family pictures, but My Bad Dad, which was chosen as the closing film at this month’s Dances with Films Festival in Los Angeles, is not only FOR families, it is WITH and BY family. The entire Polhemus family was involved. Dad wrote and directed, mom produced and their three children, aged five, three and one, star in the film. Other assorted family members—a brother, grandparents and various others totaling 16, also appear in the film, The festival runs at the Laemmle, Fairfax, 7907 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048 (map) from July 21 to 27. My Bad Dad, which is in competition, will be screened at 7:15 p.m. on the 27th.

This is the story of a troubled ex-con who finds that he has inherited his ex-girl friend’s three children. He does everything he can to get them out of his life, until they are out of his life. Only then does he realize how much he misses them.

May we suggest an interview and photo session with the Polhemus clan. The kids, Emma, now nine, Mary, who is seven, and Josiah, five are adorable.

Ann Boehlke Polhemus produced the film as well as the three children. She is also featured in it. Her husband Mack wrote and directed and his brother Joe stars in the title role along with the kids.

Ann, Mack and Joe previously teamed up for the film The Scottish Tale which garnered 20 top festival awards and was shown in Cannes. Ann caused a sensation there when she walked down the Croisette and up the stairs of the famous Palais wearing the same wedding train she wore in the film, measuring a world record 412 feet (according to the Guinness Book of Records).
